How to Mass Export ONLY the products you choose
This article shows you a little trick on how to export ONLY the products that you wish to update.
By default in Miva Merchant you cannot export only the products of your choosing to a flat file. you have the option of exporting entire categories or the entire product database.
Detailed Miva Merchant Product Export Directions:
- Create a category that you will assign all of these ‘like’ products to.
- Make sure the ‘active’ box is not checked show it does not show up on the frontend.
- Add all of the ‘like’ products to that category.
- Now you can export products by category and export only that category.
- ‘Export file format’ should be: ‘Import Files From Flatfile.
- Make a backup of the exported file and save it in a different location just in case something goes haywire and you need to restore those products.
- Open you’re the exported file in your favorite spreadsheet program and make edits and save it.
- Be careful if you use MS Excel because it likes to format some fields which causes problems on the import. Avoid Excel if you can.
- For a spreadsheet editor I recommend ‘calc’ that comes with ‘OpenOffice’ because it allows you to save spreadsheet in any format you wish and you can select the delimiters. OpenOffice is a free program http://www.openoffice.org and it is a very good alternative to MS Office.
- I usually save file with pipe delimiters (pipe is the straight up and down line when you type (shift + \ )
- Import the file
- Choose ‘Import Files from Flat File’
- Logging is up to you but you might as well have the log file emailed to you.
- IMPORTANT: Choose ‘Update Existing Products’.
- When you map the fields my suggestion is to only map the fields that you changed plus the required fields which are ‘CODE’ and ‘Name’. If you did not change anything in a particular field do not even map it. The less you import the less mistakes can be made.
- Double check field mappings
- Click Import.
- Check the products on the live site to make sure they imported correctly.
Congratulations Your Done!
